What is an Orthophoto?

An orthophoto is an aerial photograph geometrically corrected, also referred to as being "orthorectified". Unlike an uncorrected aerial photograph that has not been adjusted for topographic relief, lens distortion, and camera tilt, and orthophoto is a true representation of the ground that enable users to take accurate measurements and extract geographic features. This enables orthophoto's to be used as a backdrop or "base map" on which map features can be overlaid.
